Memorial Service for Alrie Wingard
Friday, March 18, 2022 at 2:00 PM EDT
Mrs. Arlie Wingard went to be with the Lord on March 15, 2022. She was born to Charlie Raymond Cartwright and Mary (Molly) Stevenson at home in Weeksville, NC.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Charlie, Bob, Frank, Alice, and Anne, and her husband of 65 years, Bill Wingard.
She is survived by her son: Billy Wingard, Jr (Grace); daughters: Jan Raynor (Tony), Pam Albert and Patti Spencer (Jimë), and honorary daughter, Jeanette Towne; grandchildren: Jennifer Taveras (Willy), Laura Bain (Logan), Amanda Diaz, Jon, Ashley, Jennifer, Andrew (Becca), James and Alyssa Albert, Ryan Raynor, Janna Holaday (Jon), Logan and Jordan Spencer, Megan Sullivan (Sully), Heather Williams (Stephen) and Josh Towne (Angela); great-grandchildren: Marina, Will, Tyson and Taylor Taveras, Ryker and Evelyn Bain, Tyson Raynor, Jaleigh Kinard, Canaan, and Elias McCauley, Sparrow and Ashton Spencer, Lexi Rae Williams, and Caleb and Andrew Towne.
Raised in Elizabeth City, NC, she graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1955. She began her nursing career in Southern California, moved to Greenville, South Carolina, and then to New Bern, North Carolina in 1962. In addition to her nursing career, she also taught kindergarten at Calvary Baptist Church School for more than 15 years, and toddler Sunday School at Calvary Baptist Church for more than 40 years.
She married her sweetheart and lifelong boyfriend, Bill Wingard, in 1955. She was a crown to her husband, and a blessing to her family, church, students, patients and friends. She exemplified virtue, strength, wisdom and honor in all that she did and was. She loved her family, both those that were born into it, and those that were added to it, and she made sure they all knew it. Everyone was welcome in her home, and her kitchen table was always full of wonderful food, love, and laughter.
While Momma/Grandma/Mrs. Arlie will be dearly missed by her friends and family, we rejoice that she is safely home; welcomed by her precious Lord and reunited with Poppa. We are eternally grateful for the love, prayers and kindness you have blessed our family with over the years, and especially in recent months.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 18, 2022, at Calvary Baptist Church in New Bern with Pastor Dwight Williams and Rev. Stanley Wingard officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the church. Interment will follow the service at New Bern Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Calvary Baptist Church in honor of Mrs. Arlie.
